Phulia's Padma Shri Cluster
"We did not learn weaving. We were born into it. The loom was the first thing we saw every morning and the last thing we heard at night. That does not leave you."
Phulia's Padma Shri Cluster
"We did not learn weaving. We were born into it. The loom was the first thing we saw every morning and the last thing we heard at night. That does not leave you."
Some of the designs woven in Phulia today were woven before partition, in a village that no longer exists on any map. They crossed the border not in a suitcase but in the memory of the weavers who carried them. That is what you wear when you wear a Phulia saree. Not just cloth. A memory that survived.
