Neelaveni: 100 count Phulia Cotton
By Phulia's Padma Shri Cluster
Saree Story
I am Neelaveni. I borrowed my teal from the river at dusk and my magenta from a boldness I have always carried quietly. Grey and lavender run across me in gentle stripes, not for drama but because the loom remembered them that way. My hundred-count Phulia weave keeps me light through long days, settling into the wearer like a quiet habit. I do not ask to be noticed. I simply make the colours around me a little more alive.
Handloom Perfection
Handloom sarees are made by human hands, not machines. Which means every piece carries the natural variations of the loom and the weaver, proof that someone, somewhere, made this just for you.
Description
A teal body of exceptional depth, striped across with bands of cool grey and quiet lavender — the rhythm of a loom moving without hurry. The border arrives in electric magenta, wide and confident, carrying woven geometric diamonds and chevron motifs that pulse against the cool body. Woven in fine 100-count Phulia cotton, Neelaveni is breathable, fluid and light. She drapes without effort, catches daylight in layers, and carries the particular freshness that only handwoven cotton from the Hooghly basin can hold.
Weaver
Days to make the saree
Every 100-count Phulia cotton saree takes around 8–12 days to complete. Fine cotton yarns demand patience at every stage—from preparing the warp to weaving each delicate pick by hand. What appears effortless when draped is the result of more than a week's work by artisans whose families have perfected this craft over generations.

Fabric
Crafted from fine 100-count cotton yarn, prized for its exceptional softness, airy drape and feather-light feel. The finer the count, the finer the yarn—creating a fabric that is breathable without feeling coarse, with a graceful fall that only improves with every wash.
Technique
Saree with Blouse Piece
This saree does not come with a blouse piece. We recommend pairing it with a sleeveless or short-sleeved blouse in mustard gold to echo the pallu, or turquoise blue for an elegant monochrome silhouette.
Care Instructions
First Wash: Dry clean for the first wash to preserve the finish and the zari or resham border. Thereafter: Hand wash separately in cold water using a mild liquid detergent. Avoid soaking for long periods. Do Not: Use bleach, harsh detergents, or wring the saree aggressively, as fine-count cotton fibres deserve gentle handling. Drying: Dry in the shade, away from direct sunlight, to retain the richness of the colours. Ironing: Iron on a medium cotton setting while the saree is slightly damp, or use steam for the best finish. Storage: Fold neatly and store in a cool, dry place. If the saree has a zari border, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and avoid storing it in plastic. Refold it occasionally to prevent permanent creases.
