Akshar: Statement Phulia Cotton
By Phulia's Padma Shri Cluster
Saree Story
Akshar is my name, each line on me a letter in a language of thread. Ink-black strokes stand tall across my oatmeal canvas, with dashes of plum slipped in like quiet punctuation. Phulia cotton makes me breezy and soft, a pleasure to wear through the busiest of days. Down my edge, a border of charcoal on one side and wine on the other draws a confident underline, while my pallu settles into fine black pinstripes. Some sarees whisper; I make my point beautifully.
Handloom Perfection
Handloom sarees are made by human hands, not machines. Which means every piece carries the natural variations of the loom and the weaver, proof that someone, somewhere, made this just for you.
Description
A statement Phulia handloom cotton saree in soft oatmeal, a contemporary piece drawn in clean lines of black and plum. Tall vertical stripes and staggered horizontal dashes create a graphic grid across the body, edged with a border of charcoal on one side and wine on the other. The pallu is woven with fine black pinstripes and finished with natural tassels. A sharp sleeveless blouse takes it from a power meeting to an evening gallery opening with ease, while a traditional blouse and gold jewellery give it all the grace a family celebration calls for.
Weaver
Days to make the saree
Every 100-count Phulia cotton saree takes around 8–12 days to complete. Fine cotton yarns demand patience at every stage—from preparing the warp to weaving each delicate pick by hand. What appears effortless when draped is the result of more than a week's work by artisans whose families have perfected this craft over generations.

Care Instructions
First Wash: Dry clean for the first wash to preserve the finish. Hand wash separately in cold water using a mild liquid detergent. Avoid soaking for long periods. Do Not: Use bleach, harsh detergents, or wring the saree aggressively, as fine-count cotton fibres deserve gentle handling. Drying: Dry in the shade, away from direct sunlight, to retain the richness of the colours. Ironing: Iron on a medium cotton setting while the saree is slightly damp, or use steam for the best finish. Storage: Fold neatly and store in a cool, dry place. If the saree has a zari border, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and avoid storing it in plastic. Refold it occasionally to prevent permanent creases.
