Devdaru: Jamdani Weave on Finest Cotton
By Phulia's Padma Shri Cluster
Saree Story
Devdaru is my name, after the tall deodars that stand guard over mountain slopes. Fine ivory pinstripes run down my olive green body like rain trickling through a pine forest. Woven in pure cotton, I feel soft and breezy, as fresh as a walk in the hills. Little ivory buttis are scattered between bands of stripes, and my pallu rises into a grove of ivory trees. Grounded in nature, I carry a little of the mountains with me.
Handloom Perfection
Handloom sarees are made by human hands, not machines. Which means every piece carries the natural variations of the loom and the weaver, proof that someone, somewhere, made this just for you.
Description
A handwoven jamdani saree in pure cotton, in an earthy olive green that is light and breathable for everyday drape. Fine ivory pinstripes and geometric buttis are woven across the body, with bands of ivory stripes and a lime green border along the edge. The pallu features a striking row of ivory tree motifs framed by geometric buttis and stripe bands, finished with hand-twisted green tassels. Equally charming at the workplace, a cultural evening or a festive get-together.
Weaver
Days to make the saree
Every 100-count Phulia cotton saree with handwoven jamdani takes around 2 to 3 weeks to complete. Fine cotton yarns demand patience at every stage, from preparing the warp to weaving each delicate pick by hand. The jamdani motifs are added thread by thread, with the weaver lifting the warp and laying in each extra weft by hand as the saree grows on the loom. What appears effortless when draped is the result of weeks of focused work by artisans whose families have perfected this craft over generations.

Care Instructions
First Wash: Dry clean for the first wash to preserve the finish. Hand wash separately in cold water using a mild liquid detergent. Avoid soaking for long periods. Do Not: Use bleach, harsh detergents, or wring the saree aggressively, as fine-count cotton fibres deserve gentle handling. Drying: Dry in the shade, away from direct sunlight, to retain the richness of the colours. Ironing: Iron on a medium cotton setting while the saree is slightly damp, or use steam for the best finish. Storage: Fold neatly and store in a cool, dry place. If the saree has a zari border, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and avoid storing it in plastic. Refold it occasionally to prevent permanent creases.
