Saree Story

Call me Gulnaar, I have never needed to raise my voice to be heard. I open, and there it is, red burning quietly at the heart of every gold buti, a secret my weaver decided to let you in on. My champagne ground stays warm and sheer, the kind of colour that makes everything it touches look like it was meant to happen. My butis scatter across me the way wildflowers do, no pattern anyone imposed, just the arrangement I chose for myself. I drape like a whisper and land like a declaration, and I have made peace with being both

Handloom Perfection

Handloom sarees are made by human hands, not machines. Which means every piece carries the natural variations of the loom and the weaver, proof that someone, somewhere, made this just for you.

Description

Gulnaar does not need to raise her voice. She simply opens and the red is there, burning quietly at the heart of every gold buti like a secret the weaver decided to share. Her champagne tissue ground is warm and sheer, the kind that makes everything it touches look deliberate. The kadhua meenakari butis are scattered across her body with the ease of wildflowers that have chosen their own arrangement. Her gold jaal pallu arrives in two layers of richness, diamond into floral, one abundance giving way to another. She drapes like a whisper and lands like a declaration.

Weaver

Anwer is part of a younger group building direct market access and taking the craft forward. His unit focuses on authentic handwoven Banarasi silks while actively documenting the weaving process and artisan stories.

Fabric

Woven in pure tissue, this Banarasi holds light as though it were part of the weave itself. Its luminosity does not sit on the surface. It rises softly from within. It settles close to the body like a second skin, never stiff, never poufy, never excessive.

Technique

Each buti is woven using the kadhua technique, the gold leaf form built individually into the tissue ground thread by thread. The red flower at the heart of each buti is meenakari, coloured silk woven directly into the motif as it is being built, not added later and not embroidered on top. The colour lives inside the weave. The pallu carries a dense gold jaal in two registers, diamond lattice giving way to a deeper floral trellis, both worked with the patience that only handloom allows.

Saree with Blouse Piece

Full length saree with unstitched blouse piece; Blouse piece: 0.80 metre

Care Instructions

Silk rewards patience. Dry clean for the first wash. After that, cold water and a gentle hand. Never wring it, never rush it. Dry in the shade — silk and sunlight are not friends. Iron on the reverse, low heat, while it is still slightly damp.
