Saree Story

Aasmani, they called me, after the clear blue of a sky. Drape me and I float like a cloud caught in silk, sheer and whisper-soft against the skin. Golden buttas bloom across me like stars woven by hand, each one placed with patience. My pallu glows in chevrons of pale gold, cooled by a border of climbing vines. Light as a breath, I carry the calm of an open sky wherever I go.

Handloom Perfection

Handloom sarees are made by human hands, not machines. Which means every piece carries the natural variations of the loom and the weaver, proof that someone, somewhere, made this just for you.

Description

A pure organza Banarasi in powder sky blue, handwoven on the looms of Banaras. Kadhua buttas in gold zari rise across a sheer, luminous canvas, each motif woven individually. The pallu is richly worked in a chevron zari weave, framed by a delicate floral bel. Fine zari pinstripes add movement to the drape, while the crisp kora silk holds graceful pleats. A serene heirloom for day weddings, festive gatherings and elegant celebrations.

Weaver

Although Naushad ji maintains a limited public profile, he represents the kind of weaving family that forms the backbone of the Mubarakpur cluster. Deep technical knowledge, family-run looms, and generations of experience in Banarasi weaving.

Fabric

Pure organza (kora silk): woven from highly twisted, ungummed raw silk yarn, which gives the fabric its signature sheerness, crisp hand and subtle sheen. Lightweight and structured, it drapes with volume while staying featherlight.

Technique

Each buti is woven using the kadhua technique, a supplementary weft method where the motif thread is worked individually into the ground without carrying floats across the back of the fabric. This is among the most labour-intensive methods in Banarasi weaving — no shortcuts, no continuous threads, only the accumulated patience of the loom

Saree with Blouse Piece

Full length saree with unstitched blouse piece; Blouse piece: 0.80 metre

Care Instructions

Silk rewards patience. Dry clean for the first wash. After that, cold water and a gentle hand. Never wring it, never rush it. Dry in the shade — silk and sunlight are not friends. Iron on the reverse, low heat, while it is still slightly damp.
