Yamini: Phulia Cotton with Jute Pallu
By Phulia's Padma Shri Cluster
Saree Story
Midnight over the Hooghly, with moonlight silvering the water, gave my weaver his colours. My body is a deep, velvety black, crossed with fine lines of golden jute like ripples catching the light. My pallu opens into a wide band of silver-grey jute, soft and rich with natural slub. A natural jute border frames me quietly, featherlight against the skin. I am elegance that shines after dark.
Handloom Perfection
Handloom sarees are made by human hands, not machines. Which means every piece carries the natural variations of the loom and the weaver, proof that someone, somewhere, made this just for you.
Description
A Phulia handloom cotton saree in classic black, light and breathable for everyday drape. The body carries bands of fine jute pinstripes, framed by a natural jute border. The pallu features a wide handwoven silver-grey jute band with natural slub texture. Finished with hand-twisted tassels in black. Gentle hand wash in cold water or dry clean.

Days to make the saree
Every 100-count Phulia cotton saree takes around 8–12 days to complete. Fine cotton yarns demand patience at every stage—from preparing the warp to weaving each delicate pick by hand. What appears effortless when draped is the result of more than a week's work by artisans whose families have perfected this craft over generations.

Care Instructions
First Wash: Dry clean for the first wash to preserve the finish and the zari or resham border. Thereafter: Hand wash separately in cold water using a mild liquid detergent. Avoid soaking for long periods. Do Not: Use bleach, harsh detergents, or wring the saree aggressively, as fine-count cotton fibres deserve gentle handling. Drying: Dry in the shade, away from direct sunlight, to retain the richness of the colours. Ironing: Iron on a medium cotton setting while the saree is slightly damp, or use steam for the best finish. Storage: Fold neatly and store in a cool, dry place. If the saree has a zari border, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and avoid storing it in plastic. Refold it occasionally to prevent permanent creases.
