Saree Story

I have never understood why people wait for good things. I am Vasantha and I simply show up. My olive katan carries the colour of every new beginning, copper butis placed across me like small promises the weaver made and kept. My teal border does not ease in. It arrives fully, gold kashiwa blooming the way spring blooms, all at once and without warning. My yellow selvedge is the part of me that cannot help itself, the burst of sun I keep at the edge. Every day you wear me is the first day of spring.

Handloom Perfection

Handloom sarees are made by human hands, not machines. Which means every piece carries the natural variations of the loom and the weaver, proof that someone, somewhere, made this just for you.

Description

Vasantha does not announce the season. She simply arrives and everything feels like spring. Her olive chartreuse katan body is the colour of new leaves when the light is exactly right, copper butis scattered across it like the first flowers that do not ask permission to bloom. Then the teal border arrives, dense with gold kashiwa brocade, paisleys and vines that have been growing in the weaver's memory all winter. The yellow selvedge is her laugh, the flash of sun at the edge that reminds you warmth was always coming. She is pure katan silk and she is entirely, unapologetically alive.

Weaver

Rooted in the traditional weaving language of the cluster, Nazre Alam Ji is equally comfortable exploring contemporary designs, particularly fabrics and coordinated sets for salwar suits.

Fabric

Pure katan silk throughout, the gold standard of Banarasi weaving. The body is powder blue, smooth and luminous, carrying the characteristic lustre of twisted katan threads. The border and pallu deepen into teal, the same katan ground now carrying the full weight of zari work.

Technique

The scattered copper-pink butis on the body are woven using the kadhua technique, each small floral form built individually into the katan ground thread by thread. The border and pallu carry kashiwa work, dense gold brocade with large paisley and floral forms woven continuously into the deep teal ground. The yellow selvedge runs the full length, a line of sun at the very edge of the earth.

Care Instructions

Silk rewards patience. Dry clean for the first wash. After that, cold water and a gentle hand. Never wring it, never rush it. Dry in the shade — silk and sunlight are not friends. Iron on the reverse, low heat, while it is still slightly damp.
