Sagarika: Jamdani Weave on Finest Cotton
By Phulia's Padma Shri Cluster
Saree Story
Blue is my canvas, wide and bright as the sea under a clear sky. White and mustard buttis scatter across me, each one laid in by hand like foam and sunlight on the waves. Along my edge, a white border with fine blue zigzags rolls in like the tide. Unfold my pallu and bands of mustard and white chevrons ripple across the blue, wave after wave. Featherlight on the skin, I move with the easy rhythm of the shore. I am Sagarika, and I carry the freshness of the sea breeze with me.
Handloom Perfection
Handloom sarees are made by human hands, not machines. Which means every piece carries the natural variations of the loom and the weaver, proof that someone, somewhere, made this just for you.
Description
A handwoven jamdani Phulia cotton saree in bright blue with a white and navy border. Small geometric floral buttis in white and mustard alternate across the body. The border carries fine blue zigzag stripes on white, edged in navy. The pallu is layered with mustard bands, white chevron bands and fine stripes across the blue canvas. Hand-knotted net tassels in blue finish the end. Woven in fine Phulia cotton, she drapes softly and breathes through the day.
Weaver
Days to make the saree
Every 100-count Phulia cotton saree with handwoven jamdani takes around 2 to 3 weeks to complete. Fine cotton yarns demand patience at every stage, from preparing the warp to weaving each delicate pick by hand. The jamdani motifs are added thread by thread, with the weaver lifting the warp and laying in each extra weft by hand as the saree grows on the loom. What appears effortless when draped is the result of weeks of focused work by artisans whose families have perfected this craft over generations.

Care Instructions
First Wash: Dry clean for the first wash to preserve the finish. Hand wash separately in cold water using a mild liquid detergent. Avoid soaking for long periods. Do Not: Use bleach, harsh detergents, or wring the saree aggressively, as fine-count cotton fibres deserve gentle handling. Drying: Dry in the shade, away from direct sunlight, to retain the richness of the colours. Ironing: Iron on a medium cotton setting while the saree is slightly damp, or use steam for the best finish. Storage: Fold neatly and store in a cool, dry place. If the saree has a zari border, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and avoid storing it in plastic. Refold it occasionally to prevent permanent creases.
