Saree Story

Olive is a colour that asks for nothing and gives quietly, and mine wears it the way old trees wear their bark. My border refuses to stay simple, a row of cream rudraksham beads first, then orange stripes marching close together, before maroon takes over entirely. Right at my edge sits a plain band of red, holding the whole conversation together after all that pattern. My weaver gave me one calm colour and let the border do the talking. I am Ranga, named for the many hues gathered at my hem.

Handloom Perfection

Handloom sarees are made by human hands, not machines. Which means every piece carries the natural variations of the loom and the weaver, proof that someone, somewhere, made this just for you.

Description

A pure handwoven Kanchipuram cotton in an olive green canvas, bordered with a cream diamond edge, an orange striped band, and a wide maroon border worked in cream geometric motifs, chevrons and circular florets, finished with a solid red band.

Weaver

A community of master weavers and younger artisans in Kanchipuram, carrying forward a living heritage passed from one generation to the next, not in training centres but at the loom.

Fabric

Pure handspun cotton, soft against the skin and light enough for everyday wear. The weave holds its shape through the day without losing the crispness that good cotton is known for, breathable in the warmth, easy to drape, and built to only get softer with every wash.

Technique

Handwoven on traditional pit looms in the Kanchipuram cluster, this saree is woven in pure cotton, carrying the same discipline and craftsmanship of Kanchipuram's silk weaving tradition. Every thread is handspun cotton, woven start to finish without a single machine touch.

Care Instructions

First Wash: Dry clean for the first wash to preserve the finish and the zari or resham border. Thereafter: Hand wash separately in cold water using a mild liquid detergent. Avoid soaking for long periods. Do Not: Use bleach, harsh detergents, or wring the saree aggressively, as fine-count cotton fibres deserve gentle handling. Drying: Dry in the shade, away from direct sunlight, to retain the richness of the colours. Ironing: Iron on a medium cotton setting while the saree is slightly damp, or use steam for the best finish. Storage: Fold neatly and store in a cool, dry place. Refold it occasionally to prevent permanent creases.
