Saree Story

They wanted to name me something softer, I vetoed it. Ragini suits a colour that refuses to whisper, and rani pink was never going to settle for a hush. I let a few gold buti wander across my body, unbothered, because I already know where the eyes are going anyway. My border, though, that is where I stop being polite, lattice and vine crowding in like they heard there was a party and nobody told them the guest list was full. Then my pallu drops one enormous gold paisley in the corner, casual as a mic drop. I don't do subtle, I do memorable, ask anyone who has stood next to me in a room.

Handloom Perfection

Handloom sarees are made by human hands, not machines. Which means every piece carries the natural variations of the loom and the weaver, proof that someone, somewhere, made this just for you.

Description

Ragini is a pure silk Banarasi in vivid rani pink, her body scattered with small gold diamond-shaped buti in a light, even rhythm. Her border builds in layers, a scalloped floral edge giving way to a dense gold lattice of interlocking octagons and vine work. The pallu carries this richness further still, anchored by a single bold gold paisley worked in fine detail at the corner, giving the saree its most striking, concentrated moment of craft.

Weaver

Although Naushad ji maintains a limited public profile, he represents the kind of weaving family that forms the backbone of the Mubarakpur cluster. Deep technical knowledge, family-run looms, and generations of experience in Banarasi weaving.

Fabric

Woven in pure silk with a smooth, structured hand-feel and a natural, glowing sheen. It holds the dense zari work of the border and pallu crisply while still falling into soft, fluid folds through the body.

Technique

The buti, lattice border and paisley are woven directly into the silk using the extra weft technique on the jacquard loom, giving each motif a raised, textured finish rather than a flat printed look. The layered border, moving from scalloped floral edge to dense octagon lattice, reflects the kind of graduated complexity fine Banarasi weaving is known for.

Care Instructions

Silk rewards patience. Dry clean for the first wash. After that, cold water and a gentle hand. Never wring it, never rush it. Dry in the shade — silk and sunlight are not friends. Iron on the reverse, low heat, while it is still slightly damp.
