Palash: Jamdani Weave on Finest Cotton
By Phulia's Padma Shri Cluster
Saree Story
Maroon red is my canvas, deep and warm as earth after a summer storm. Little orange and pink buttis glow across me, each one laid in by hand like sparks from a lamp. Along my edge, a border of orange and pink stripes burns bright and bold. Unfold my pallu and bands of orange motifs rise in rows, like palash blossoms crowding a branch. Soft and featherlight on the skin, I wear my fire with an easy grace. I am Palash, and I light up every room I enter.
Handloom Perfection
Handloom sarees are made by human hands, not machines. Which means every piece carries the natural variations of the loom and the weaver, proof that someone, somewhere, made this just for you.
Description
A handwoven jamdani Phulia cotton saree in rich maroon red with an orange and pink striped border. Small geometric buttis in orange and pink are scattered across the body. The pallu carries repeating bands of orange floral and lattice motifs between fine stripes. A row of leafy motifs in orange crowns the top of the pallu. Hand-knotted net tassels in maroon finish the end. Woven in fine Phulia cotton, she drapes softly and breathes through the day.
Weaver
Days to make the saree
Every 100-count Phulia cotton saree with handwoven jamdani takes around 2 to 3 weeks to complete. Fine cotton yarns demand patience at every stage, from preparing the warp to weaving each delicate pick by hand. The jamdani motifs are added thread by thread, with the weaver lifting the warp and laying in each extra weft by hand as the saree grows on the loom. What appears effortless when draped is the result of weeks of focused work by artisans whose families have perfected this craft over generations.

Care Instructions
First Wash: Dry clean for the first wash to preserve the finish. Hand wash separately in cold water using a mild liquid detergent. Avoid soaking for long periods. Do Not: Use bleach, harsh detergents, or wring the saree aggressively, as fine-count cotton fibres deserve gentle handling. Drying: Dry in the shade, away from direct sunlight, to retain the richness of the colours. Ironing: Iron on a medium cotton setting while the saree is slightly damp, or use steam for the best finish. Storage: Fold neatly and store in a cool, dry place. If the saree has a zari border, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and avoid storing it in plastic. Refold it occasionally to prevent permanent creases.
