Saree Story

I am not the same saree at eight in the evening as I was at eight in the morning. Neither are you. That is why we get along so well. I am Nishigandha. My powder blue body carries the lightness of a day that has not yet decided what it wants to be, gold butis placed quietly across me like thoughts not yet spoken. But as you drape me and my teal border and pallu unfold, something shifts. The kashiwa gold blooms in the deep teal the way night jasmine blooms after dark, unhurried and completely certain. I am pure katan silk and I have the patience of something built to last. I will be different every time you wear me. And every time, exactly right.

Handloom Perfection

Handloom sarees are made by human hands, not machines. Which means every piece carries the natural variations of the loom and the weaver, proof that someone, somewhere, made this just for you.

Description

Nishigandha is a saree that knows the difference between day and night and dresses accordingly. Her powder blue katan body is open and luminous, gold kadhua butis scattered across it like the last light of afternoon. Then the border arrives in deep teal, dense with kashiwa gold brocade, large paisleys and flowering vines that bloom with the confidence of something that has been waiting all day to be seen. The pallu deepens the teal further, gold zari stripes moving through it like the first stars appearing. She is two blues and one conversation, and it is the most beautiful conversation in the room.

Weaver

Rooted in the traditional weaving language of the cluster, Nazre Alam Ji is equally comfortable exploring contemporary designs, particularly fabrics and coordinated sets for salwar suits.

Fabric

Pure katan silk throughout, the gold standard of Banarasi weaving. The body is powder blue, smooth and luminous, carrying the characteristic lustre of twisted katan threads. The border and pallu deepen into teal, the same katan ground now carrying the full weight of zari work.

Technique

The scattered gold butis on the body are woven using the kadhua technique, each small floral form built individually into the katan ground thread by thread. The border carries kashiwa work, a dense brocade technique where large paisley and floral forms are woven with gold zari into the deep teal ground, the motifs interlocking and continuous. The pallu carries vertical gold zari stripes through the teal, a rhythmic shimmer that moves with the drape.

Care Instructions

Silk rewards patience. Dry clean for the first wash. After that, cold water and a gentle hand. Never wring it, never rush it. Dry in the shade — silk and sunlight are not friends. Iron on the reverse, low heat, while it is still slightly damp.
