Saree Story

They named me Morpankhi, for the feather that never settles on one colour. I don't believe in edges the way older sarees do. My colour begins as teal, the blue of peacock feathers caught mid-turn, and softens into green without ever needing a border to tell it where to stop. Small mangoes rest across me in silver and gold together, two metals agreeing for once. My pallu doesn't reach for a different colour, it simply grows denser, the same teal-green folding into itself, lattice within lattice, paisleys hiding inside diamonds. I am proof that tradition doesn't need a frame to be whole.

Handloom Perfection

Handloom sarees are made by human hands, not machines. Which means every piece carries the natural variations of the loom and the weaver, proof that someone, somewhere, made this just for you.

Description

A pure Kanjeevaram silk saree in a modern borderless style, the canvas a vivid peacock teal shading softly into green at the pallu. Scattered across the body are mango-shaped buttis worked in silver and gold zari together, with the pallu and border woven tone-on-tone in a dense diamond and paisley lattice, self-coloured rather than contrast.

Weaver

A community of master weavers and younger artisans in Kanchipuram, carrying forward a living heritage passed from one generation to the next, not in training centres but at the loom.

Fabric

Pure Kanjeevaram silk

Technique

Each saree is handwoven in pure Kanjeevaram silk, a craft native to Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu and passed down through generations of master weavers. The silk is known for its characteristic sheen, weight and durability, qualities that come only from handloom weaving rather than power loom production. Every motif, border and pallu is worked in fine zari, tested for purity and quality, ensuring the gold retains its lustre wear after wear. No two handwoven pieces are ever entirely identical, each one carrying the small, natural variations that come from being made by hand rather than machine.

Care Instructions

Silk rewards patience. Dry clean for the first wash. After that, cold water and a gentle hand. Never wring it, never rush it. Dry in the shade — silk and sunlight are not friends. Iron on the reverse, low heat, while it is still slightly damp.
