Kasturi: Royal Katan Silk Kadhuwa Benarasi
By Naushad Ji
Saree Story
Tilt me and I change my mind, soft mauve one moment and burnished bronze the next. Kasturi, they named me, for a warmth as rare and lingering as musk. Fine lines of zari run down my length, some traced with tiny temple spires, some dotted like a string of beads. My pallu opens into a garden of woven leaves around a delicate zari lattice, finished with a whisper of rose pink at the edge. Quietly luminous, I am elegance that speaks softly and stays in the memory.
Handloom Perfection
Handloom sarees are made by human hands, not machines. Which means every piece carries the natural variations of the loom and the weaver, proof that someone, somewhere, made this just for you.
Description
A pure katan silk Banarasi in dual-tone mauve with a burnished bronze sheen, handwoven on the looms of Banaras. Vertical zari stripes in temple and dotted patterns run across a lustrous silk canvas. The pallu is richly woven with bands of leaf motifs framing a fine zari lattice of square motifs. A slim rose pink edge adds a soft contrast to the drape. A refined heirloom for festive evenings, family celebrations and intimate gatherings.

Fabric
Katan is pure mulberry silk woven with twisted silk filaments in warp and weft. This twist lends strength, a smooth hand and a rich natural lustre. The fabric drapes fluidly with a soft body and graceful weight. Its dense, even surface makes it the classic canvas for Banarasi zari work.
Technique
Saree with Blouse Piece

Care Instructions
Silk rewards patience. Dry clean for the first wash. After that, cold water and a gentle hand. Never wring it, never rush it. Dry in the shade — silk and sunlight are not friends. Iron on the reverse, low heat, while it is still slightly damp.
