Saree Story

Blue is my canvas, clear as the autumn sky that tells Bengal the festive season is near. White flowers drift across me, each one laid in by hand like kash blooms nodding in the breeze. Along my edge, a brighter blue border runs lightly, traced with fine stripes. Unfold my pallu and larger white blooms gather between bands of small flowers and tiny triangles. Featherlight on the skin, I sway as gently as a field of kash in the wind. I am Kashphool, and I carry the joy of the coming festivities in every fold.

Handloom Perfection

Handloom sarees are made by human hands, not machines. Which means every piece carries the natural variations of the loom and the weaver, proof that someone, somewhere, made this just for you.

Description

A handwoven jamdani Phulia cotton saree in rich blue with a tone-on-tone blue border. Small white floral buttis are scattered across the body. The border carries fine stripes in a brighter shade of blue. The pallu features large white floral buttas, framed by bands of small buttis, woven blocks and triangle motifs. Hand-knotted net tassels in blue finish the end. Woven in fine Phulia cotton, she drapes softly and breathes through the day.

Weaver

Some of the designs woven in Phulia today were woven before partition, in a village that no longer exists on any map. They crossed the border not in a suitcase but in the memory of the weavers who carried them. That is what you wear when you wear a Phulia saree. Not just cloth. A memory that survived.

Know More

Days to make the saree

Every 100-count Phulia cotton saree with handwoven jamdani takes around 2 to 3 weeks to complete. Fine cotton yarns demand patience at every stage, from preparing the warp to weaving each delicate pick by hand. The jamdani motifs are added thread by thread, with the weaver lifting the warp and laying in each extra weft by hand as the saree grows on the loom. What appears effortless when draped is the result of weeks of focused work by artisans whose families have perfected this craft over generations.

Fabric

Crafted from fine 100-count cotton yarn, prized for its exceptional softness, airy drape and feather-light feel. The finer the count, the finer the yarn—creating a fabric that is breathable without feeling coarse, with a graceful fall that only improves with every wash.

Technique

A 100-count Phulia cotton begins long before the first thread meets the loom. Fine cotton yarn is washed, starched and carefully stretched into a precise warp. The resham border is woven into the saree itself, motif by motif, as the jacquard moves in harmony with the weaver’s hands. The jamdani motifs are laid in by hand, one extra weft at a time, as the saree grows on the loom. Every inch carries thousands of deliberate movements and a tradition passed down through generations.

Saree with Blouse Piece

The saree comes with a standard running blouse piece

Care Instructions

First Wash: Dry clean for the first wash to preserve the finish. Hand wash separately in cold water using a mild liquid detergent. Avoid soaking for long periods. Do Not: Use bleach, harsh detergents, or wring the saree aggressively, as fine-count cotton fibres deserve gentle handling. Drying: Dry in the shade, away from direct sunlight, to retain the richness of the colours. Ironing: Iron on a medium cotton setting while the saree is slightly damp, or use steam for the best finish. Storage: Fold neatly and store in a cool, dry place. If the saree has a zari border, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and avoid storing it in plastic. Refold it occasionally to prevent permanent creases.
