Saree Story

I am Ishani. Named after the Goddess. And why not? Look at me once, and say if you can look away. Royal blue holds my strength, a tactile understanding that power lies in creating happiness. The hearts in my buttis are where I hold my affection, a desire to make a difference. Wrapped in pure Katan silk, woven through Kadhuwa technique, one butti at a time, I am all you need to bolster your confidence. Wear me today, and see how a room remembers you long after you have left it.

Handloom Perfection

Handloom sarees are made by human hands, not machines. Which means every piece carries the natural variations of the loom and the weaver, proof that someone, somewhere, made this just for you.

Description

A royal blue Banarasi saree in pure Katan silk, its canvas scattered with small gold kadhuwa butis worked in a diagonal repeat, each buti carrying a heart motif at its centre. The border is a dense procession of paisleys and blossoms in zari, wide enough to anchor the drape, and the pallu carries a fine striped jaal that mirrors the border's motifs in miniature. The silk has the firm, structured hand typical of Katan, holding its pleats through a full evening rather than softening into a fall. Named for the goddess who commands the northeast corner, this is a saree built for presence.

Weaver

Although Naushad ji maintains a limited public profile, he represents the kind of weaving family that forms the backbone of the Mubarakpur cluster. Deep technical knowledge, family-run looms, and generations of experience in Banarasi weaving.

Fabric

Woven in katan silk with a smooth, fine texture and a soft natural sheen, this saree carries just enough body to hold its scalloped border crisp while draping with easy, fluid movement.

Technique

Kadhuwa buta weave — each gold motif individually hand-woven with a separate small shuttle, giving raised, textured butis rather than floated threads on the reverse. The wide border carries a dense floral and paisley (kalga) design in zari, and the pallu repeats the same language in narrow vertical gold stripes interspersed with rows of small butis.

Saree with Blouse Piece

Full length saree with unstitched blouse piece; Blouse piece: 0.80 metre

Care Instructions

Silk rewards patience. Dry clean for the first wash. After that, cold water and a gentle hand. Never wring it, never rush it. Dry in the shade — silk and sunlight are not friends. Iron on the reverse, low heat, while it is still slightly damp.
