Saree Story

Devagya, they named me, for a wisdom as deep as the blue I carry. My katan silk slides like cool water through the fingers, smooth and quietly lustrous. Zari buttas bloom across me in patient rows, each one woven by hand. Rows of rudraksham motifs trace my border and gather in my pallu, shining like moonlit silver on a royal canvas. Regal and serene, I turn every gathering into an occasion.

Handloom Perfection

Handloom sarees are made by human hands, not machines. Which means every piece carries the natural variations of the loom and the weaver, proof that someone, somewhere, made this just for you.

Description

A pure katan silk Banarasi in rich royal blue, handwoven on the looms of Banaras. Kadhua buttas in zari are woven in graceful rows across a lustrous silk canvas. The border carries bands of rudraksham motifs in shimmering zari. The pallu glows with a fine zari trellis, framed by rudraksham bands and delicate zari pinstripes. A timeless heirloom for weddings, festive evenings and grand celebrations.

Weaver

Although Naushad ji maintains a limited public profile, he represents the kind of weaving family that forms the backbone of the Mubarakpur cluster. Deep technical knowledge, family-run looms, and generations of experience in Banarasi weaving.

Fabric

Katan is pure mulberry silk woven with twisted silk filaments in warp and weft. This twist lends strength, a smooth hand and a rich natural lustre. The fabric drapes fluidly with a soft body and graceful weight. Its dense, even surface makes it the classic canvas for Banarasi zari work.

Technique

KKadhua is among the most intricate Banarasi brocade techniques. Each butta is woven individually, with extra-weft zari inserted by hand across that motif alone. As no zari travels the full width, there are no floats to cut at the back. The result is a clean reverse and motifs that stay secure for generations.

Care Instructions

Silk rewards patience. Dry clean for the first wash. After that, cold water and a gentle hand. Never wring it, never rush it. Dry in the shade — silk and sunlight are not friends. Iron on the reverse, low heat, while it is still slightly damp.
