Saree Story

Look at me closely and you will see nothing but small black and white squares, repeating without a single break until they meet my border. That grid is not an accident, it takes discipline on the loom to keep every check exact across the whole length. I am woven in silk cotton, so I carry the crispness of cotton and the sheen of silk without the weight of either alone. My border arrives like punctuation, a deep teal green worked in gold with rows of triangles and medallions marching along the edge. The join where my checks meet that border is done in korvai, two different sections locked together by hand, thread by thread, so the transition holds even after years of wear. I am built for the days when you want structure without stiffness, pattern without fuss.

Handloom Perfection

Handloom sarees are made by human hands, not machines. Which means every piece carries the natural variations of the loom and the weaver, proof that someone, somewhere, made this just for you.

Description

A silk cotton Kanjeevaram woven in a classic black and white kattam check, finished with a rich teal green korvai border in gold. Silk cotton gives this saree a crisp, breathable drape, lighter than pure silk and easy to manage through a long day, while the woven border keeps it dressy enough to hold its own anywhere. A saree that moves easily between a desk and a temple visit.

Weaver

Late Shri K. Veeraraghavan, a distinguished Kanchipuram handloom weaver, was honoured with the National Award in 1992 for his mastery of the Korvai technique. Today his sons carry that legacy forward.

Fabric

Silk Cotton Kanjeevaram

Technique

Handwoven on traditional Kanjeevaram looms in silk cotton, a blend that brings together the crispness of cotton and the sheen of silk in a single yarn. The body is woven with the check, stripe, or motif pattern specific to each piece, while the contrast border is joined using the traditional korvai three-shuttle interlock technique, the same method used in pure silk Kanjeevarams, giving strength at the seam without compromising the drape. Silk cotton makes the saree noticeably lighter than a pure silk Kanjeevaram, easier to manage through a full day while still carrying the structure and richness associated with the weave.

Care Instructions

Dry clean recommended for the first wash, especially if the saree has a zari or gold worked border, to preserve the colour and shine of the metallic thread. For later washes, hand wash gently in cold water using a mild detergent or shampoo, without soaking the saree for long periods.
