Saree Story

The dhol begins before I do, its beat setting the tempo I have carried on my canvas for generations. Red blooms across white the way gulmohar opens on a Bohag morning, when spring returns and the new year begins. Gold traces every paisley the way sunlight settles over young paddy freshly sown. My zari border runs gold along my length, a steady current holding the drape together. Tassels fall red at my edge, tied the way a mekhela chador is tied before the dance begins. I am Bihu, woven for the one season that asks nothing of you but joy.

Handloom Perfection

Handloom sarees are made by human hands, not machines. Which means every piece carries the natural variations of the loom and the weaver, proof that someone, somewhere, made this just for you.

Description

An Assam cotton saree in white with a deep red and gold thread palette. Paisley kalka motifs are woven across the pallu and body, framed by a fine red temple border. A zari-gold border runs the length of the drape, finished with a hand-tied red tassel edge. Lightweight handloom cotton, well suited to festive daywear.

Weaver

A Weavers Nest by Susant Ji works closely with weaving communities across Assam and the wider Northeast, sourcing textiles rooted in the region's culture and its natural fibres.Exists to keep old age techniques alive, rather than letting the craft's identity dissolve into a generic "handloom" label.

Care Instructions

Hand wash separately in cold water using a mild liquid detergent. Avoid soaking for long periods. Do Not: Use bleach, harsh detergents, or wring the saree aggressively, as fine-count cotton fibres deserve gentle handling. Drying: Dry in the shade, away from direct sunlight, to retain the richness of the colours. Ironing: Iron on a medium cotton setting while the saree is slightly damp, or use steam for the best finish. Storage: Fold neatly and store in a cool, dry place. Refold it occasionally to prevent permanent creases.
