Saree Story

They say my name means grace, and I understood it the day my vine was drawn, one continuous curl that never once had to correct itself. My crimson doesn't need volume to be noticed, and my gold doesn't need to compete with my violet, we've simply learned to circle each other well. Every flower on my canvas calls me Anika, and I dance with them in abundant grace.

Handloom Perfection

Handloom sarees are made by human hands, not machines. Which means every piece carries the natural variations of the loom and the weaver, proof that someone, somewhere, made this just for you.

Description

Anika moves the way grace always does, unhurried, certain of where it's headed. Her vine curls and loops across a deep crimson field, gold blossoms opening beside violet ones, never crowding, always circling back to find their own space. A narrow gold pinstripe band interrupts her briefly before the border takes over completely, dense with the same blooms repeating in close formation, sure of themselves. If you are looking for grace, she is grace personified. Pure matka silk, spun from pierced mulberry cocoons rather than reeled thread, which is why she carries that slight, honest slub across her surface instead of a polished shine. No pretence to be smoother than who she is. She holds texture the way raw things do, with the kind of body that keeps each petal exactly where it was placed. One garment. Two authors.

Weaver

Some of the designs woven in Phulia today were woven before partition, in a village that no longer exists on any map. They crossed the border not in a suitcase but in the memory of the weavers who carried them. That is what you wear when you wear a Phulia saree. Not just cloth. A memory that survived.

Fabric

Handspun from pierced cocoons, Matka silk is prized for its natural texture, breathable comfort and understated elegance. Its distinctive grain and matte finish celebrate the beauty of handwoven silk in its most honest form.

Technique

The motifs aren't printed, embroidered, or jacquard-automated. Each motif is inserted by hand directly into the weave, using a fine bamboo needle or small stick (called a kandul), as the base cloth is being woven. This is why it's sometimes described as embroidery worked into the loom itself, rather than on top of finished cloth.

Care Instructions

Silk rewards patience. Dry clean for the first wash. After that, cold water and a gentle hand. Never wring it, never rush it. Dry in the shade — silk and sunlight are not friends. Iron on the reverse, low heat, while it is still slightly damp.
