Saree Story

Call me Sitara, I have never needed a spotlight to be seen. My sky is indigo and quiet until you notice it is full of stars, small and countless, refusing to be counted. Then comes my border, loud where my body chose to whisper, paisleys marching in gold as if they had somewhere important to be. I like that contrast, restraint until the very edge, then all at once. Nurul Ji wove me, and his tanchoi hand is why nothing about me sits on the surface, it all lives inside the silk. I was never the saree that announces itself first, I am the one you keep looking at.

Handloom Perfection

Handloom sarees are made by human hands, not machines. Which means every piece carries the natural variations of the loom and the weaver, proof that someone, somewhere, made this just for you.

Description

Sitara carries a dense field of small star-shaped florets in ivory, gold and rust across a deep indigo canvas, giving her body a quiet, textured shimmer. Where the body meets the border she shifts registers entirely, a wide paisley trail in gold, green and rust running the length of her edge with far greater scale and ceremony. Her pallu stays plain, a field of indigo silk finished with a dense fringe of knotted tassels, letting the drama sit at the border rather than spilling over. The blouse piece is woven to match the body's star trellis, keeping the look cohesive from end to end.

Weaver

National Award-winning master weaver Nurul Ji turns colour silk threads into poetry. Thread by thread, his Tanchoi Butidaar sarees bloom with hundreds of delicate motifs woven directly into the silk, each one a testament to extraordinary heritage kept alive through his hands.

Fabric

Woven in pure silk with a smooth, closely woven texture, this saree holds its pattern crisp without turning stiff, settling into soft, fluid folds when draped despite the density of the weave.

Technique

This is a tanchoi jamewar weave, a technique in which the coloured pattern is built directly into the silk during weaving using multiple silk threads on the weft, rather than through embroidery or print, leaving no thread floating loose at the back. This saree comes from the loom of Nurul Ji, a National Award winner recognised for his extraordinary expertise in tanchoi weaving.

Saree with Blouse Piece

Full length saree with unstitched blouse piece, approx. 0.8 metre

Care Instructions

Silk rewards patience. Dry clean for the first wash. After that, cold water and a gentle hand. Never wring it, never rush it. Dry in the shade — silk and sunlight are not friends. Iron on the reverse, low heat, while it is still slightly damp.
