Saree Story

Ivory is my canvas, soft as shiuli petals scattered across a courtyard at dawn. Little coral and sage green flowers dot my body, each one laid in by hand. Along my edge, an orange and green border glows like the stem and leaf of the shiuli. Unfold my pallu and large blooms gather in coral and green, framed by bands of tiny flowers and stripes. Featherlight on the skin, I carry a fragrance you can almost sense. I am Shiuli, and I arrive with the gentle promise of the festive season.

Handloom Perfection

Handloom sarees are made by human hands, not machines. Which means every piece carries the natural variations of the loom and the weaver, proof that someone, somewhere, made this just for you.

Description

A handwoven jamdani Phulia cotton saree in soft ivory with an orange and green striped border. Small floral buttis in coral and sage green are scattered across the body. The pallu features large floral buttas in coral and sage green. Bands of rust stripes, small flowers, woven blocks and triangle motifs frame the buttas above and below. Hand-knotted net tassels in ivory finish the end. Woven in fine Phulia cotton, she drapes softly and breathes through the day.

Weaver

Some of the designs woven in Phulia today were woven before partition, in a village that no longer exists on any map. They crossed the border not in a suitcase but in the memory of the weavers who carried them. That is what you wear when you wear a Phulia saree. Not just cloth. A memory that survived.

Know More

Days to make the saree

Every 100-count Phulia cotton saree with handwoven jamdani takes around 2 to 3 weeks to complete. Fine cotton yarns demand patience at every stage, from preparing the warp to weaving each delicate pick by hand. The jamdani motifs are added thread by thread, with the weaver lifting the warp and laying in each extra weft by hand as the saree grows on the loom. What appears effortless when draped is the result of weeks of focused work by artisans whose families have perfected this craft over generations.

Fabric

Crafted from fine 100-count cotton yarn, prized for its exceptional softness, airy drape and feather-light feel. The finer the count, the finer the yarn—creating a fabric that is breathable without feeling coarse, with a graceful fall that only improves with every wash.

Technique

A 100-count Phulia cotton begins long before the first thread meets the loom. Fine cotton yarn is washed, starched and carefully stretched into a precise warp. The resham border is woven into the saree itself, motif by motif, as the jacquard moves in harmony with the weaver’s hands. The jamdani motifs are laid in by hand, one extra weft at a time, as the saree grows on the loom. Every inch carries thousands of deliberate movements and a tradition passed down through generations.

Saree with Blouse Piece

The saree comes with a standard running blouse piece

Care Instructions

First Wash: Dry clean for the first wash to preserve the finish. Hand wash separately in cold water using a mild liquid detergent. Avoid soaking for long periods. Do Not: Use bleach, harsh detergents, or wring the saree aggressively, as fine-count cotton fibres deserve gentle handling. Drying: Dry in the shade, away from direct sunlight, to retain the richness of the colours. Ironing: Iron on a medium cotton setting while the saree is slightly damp, or use steam for the best finish. Storage: Fold neatly and store in a cool, dry place. If the saree has a zari border, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and avoid storing it in plastic. Refold it occasionally to prevent permanent creases.
