Shankhamala: 100 count Cotton
By Phulia's Padma Shri Cluster
Saree Story
Shankha and pola on a new bride's wrists, white and red side by side, is where my story begins. My weaver kept my body the soft ivory of a conch shell. Along my edge runs a bold red border, flanked by bands where little fish swim between star flowers, a blessing for abundance. Fine temple peaks frame them all, featherlight and gentle against the skin. I am every Pujo morning folded into one saree.
Handloom Perfection
Handloom sarees are made by human hands, not machines. Which means every piece carries the natural variations of the loom and the weaver, proof that someone, somewhere, made this just for you.
Description
A Phulia handloom cotton saree in soft ivory, light and breathable for festive and everyday drape. A classic red border runs between twin resham bands of red fish and star-flower motifs on white. Fine temple triangles edge the border where it meets the body. A timeless Bengali red and white pairing, made for Pujo and beyond. Gentle hand wash in cold water or dry clean.

Days to make the saree
Every 100-count Phulia cotton saree takes around 8–12 days to complete. Fine cotton yarns demand patience at every stage—from preparing the warp to weaving each delicate pick by hand. What appears effortless when draped is the result of more than a week's work by artisans whose families have perfected this craft over generations.

Care Instructions
First Wash: Dry clean for the first wash to preserve the finish and the zari or resham border. Thereafter: Hand wash separately in cold water using a mild liquid detergent. Avoid soaking for long periods. Do Not: Use bleach, harsh detergents, or wring the saree aggressively, as fine-count cotton fibres deserve gentle handling. Drying: Dry in the shade, away from direct sunlight, to retain the richness of the colours. Ironing: Iron on a medium cotton setting while the saree is slightly damp, or use steam for the best finish. Storage: Fold neatly and store in a cool, dry place. If the saree has a zari border, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and avoid storing it in plastic. Refold it occasionally to prevent permanent creases.
