Saree Story

Look closely and you will find small silver flowers scattered across me, each one catching light differently depending on where you stand. That is Neerja for you, quiet until someone actually looks. I carry zero zari, woven entirely in silk thread, so I sit light through a nine hour day without ever weighing on the shoulder. My blue holds through every kind of light, morning fluorescent or evening candle, without turning flat the way some silks do. My border works its motifs in ivory and gold thread rather than metal, so the richness comes from craft, not shine. By the time evening arrives I am still exactly as I started, ready for whatever the room asks of me next.

Handloom Perfection

Handloom sarees are made by human hands, not machines. Which means every piece carries the natural variations of the loom and the weaver, proof that someone, somewhere, made this just for you.

Description

A pure silk handwoven Kanjeevaram with zero zari, woven entirely in silk thread so it carries the drape and body of a classic Kanchipuram without the weight of metallic work. Blue body scattered with small silver and gold buttis, ivory and gold contrast border. This is the 9 to 9 saree, light enough for a full working day and rich enough to carry you through whatever comes after.

Weaver

Late Shri K. Veeraraghavan, a distinguished Kanchipuram handloom weaver, was honoured with the National Award in 1992 for his mastery of the Korvai technique. Today his sons carry that legacy forward.

Fabric

Pure Kanjeevaram silk

Technique

Handwoven on pit looms in Kanchipuram in pure mulberry silk, warp and weft, with no zari used anywhere in the body or border. The contrast border is joined to the body using the traditional korvai three-shuttle interlock technique, giving strength at the seam without any metallic thread. Motifs are woven directly in silk thread rather than zari, keeping the saree lighter and less reflective than a traditional zari Kanjeevaram while retaining the same handloom structure and drape.

Saree with Blouse Piece

Contrast piece attached, matching border tone; 0.8-1 metre in length

Care Instructions

Silk rewards patience. Dry clean for the first wash. After that, cold water and a gentle hand. Never wring it, never rush it. Dry in the shade — silk and sunlight are not friends. Iron on the reverse, low heat, while it is still slightly damp.
