Saree Story

Look closely at my body and you will find small gold blossoms scattered throughout, each one catching light differently depending on where you stand, the same restraint my name promises. That quiet is deliberate, it leaves room for my border to do the talking. There, elephants walk in a steady line, gold against deep maroon, the same way they once led temple processions through festival streets. Where my mint green body ends and my maroon pallu begins, the elephants return, marching once more before giving way to a final band of pure gold. I carry my blooms quietly and my procession loudly, each one in its place.

Handloom Perfection

Handloom sarees are made by human hands, not machines. Which means every piece carries the natural variations of the loom and the weaver, proof that someone, somewhere, made this just for you.

Description

A SICO pure handloom Kanjeevaram in a mint green body scattered with small gold buttis, paired with a rich maroon pallu and border woven in a striking elephant procession motif in gold. The silk-cotton blend gives it a firm, structured drape with a soft sheen, sturdy enough for a long day and grand enough for a celebration. A saree built around a single, unmissable motif rather than many small ones competing for space.

Weaver

Late Shri K. Veeraraghavan, a distinguished Kanchipuram handloom weaver, was honoured with the National Award in 1992 for his mastery of the Korvai technique. Today his sons carry that legacy forward.

Fabric

Silk Cotton Kanjeevaram

Technique

Handwoven on traditional Kanjeevaram looms in silk cotton, a blend that brings together the crispness of cotton and the sheen of silk in a single yarn. The body is woven with the check, stripe, or motif pattern specific to each piece, while the contrast border is joined using the traditional korvai three-shuttle interlock technique, the same method used in pure silk Kanjeevarams, giving strength at the seam without compromising the drape. Silk cotton makes the saree noticeably lighter than a pure silk Kanjeevaram, easier to manage through a full day while still carrying the structure and richness associated with the weave.

Saree with Blouse Piece

Contrast piece attached, matching border tone; 0.8-1 metre in length

Care Instructions

Dry clean recommended for the first wash, especially if the saree has a zari or gold worked border, to preserve the colour and shine of the metallic thread. For later washes, hand wash gently in cold water using a mild detergent or shampoo, without soaking the saree for long periods.
