Kalam: Statement Phulia Cotton
By Phulia's Padma Shri Cluster
Saree Story
Kalam is my name, for the pen that left its blue ink across my ivory. Cobalt strokes run straight and sure, crossed by little aqua dashes like thoughts jotted in the margins. Phulia cotton keeps me cool and featherlight, the easiest companion for a full day. My edge carries a border of cobalt on one side and turquoise on the other, and my pallu fills with fine blue pinstripes like a freshly ruled page. Pick me up and write your own story.
Handloom Perfection
Handloom sarees are made by human hands, not machines. Which means every piece carries the natural variations of the loom and the weaver, proof that someone, somewhere, made this just for you.
Description
A statement Phulia handloom cotton saree in ivory, a fresh modern piece sketched in lines of cobalt and aqua. Vertical cobalt stripes and staggered aqua dashes create an airy grid across the body, edged in cobalt on one side and turquoise on the other. The pallu is woven with fine blue pinstripes and finished with ivory tassels. Team it with a tailored sleeveless blouse for a polished workday look that flows straight into a dinner soiree, or bring in a traditional blouse and gold jewellery for festive gatherings.
Weaver
Days to make the saree
Every 100-count Phulia cotton saree takes around 8–12 days to complete. Fine cotton yarns demand patience at every stage—from preparing the warp to weaving each delicate pick by hand. What appears effortless when draped is the result of more than a week's work by artisans whose families have perfected this craft over generations.

Care Instructions
First Wash: Dry clean for the first wash to preserve the finish. Hand wash separately in cold water using a mild liquid detergent. Avoid soaking for long periods. Do Not: Use bleach, harsh detergents, or wring the saree aggressively, as fine-count cotton fibres deserve gentle handling. Drying: Dry in the shade, away from direct sunlight, to retain the richness of the colours. Ironing: Iron on a medium cotton setting while the saree is slightly damp, or use steam for the best finish. Storage: Fold neatly and store in a cool, dry place. If the saree has a zari border, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and avoid storing it in plastic. Refold it occasionally to prevent permanent creases.
