Bonani: Jamdani Weave on Finest Cotton
By Phulia's Padma Shri Cluster
Saree Story
Ivory is my canvas, lined with fine black stripes like rain falling through still air. Small black buttis are scattered across me, each one laid in by hand. My black border runs alongside, steady as a path through the woods. Unfold my pallu and a forest rises in black, tree beside tree in a quiet row. Soft and airy on the skin, I carry the calm of a walk among tall pines. I am Bonani, and the forest is where I feel most at home.
Handloom Perfection
Handloom sarees are made by human hands, not machines. Which means every piece carries the natural variations of the loom and the weaver, proof that someone, somewhere, made this just for you.
Description
A handwoven jamdani Phulia cotton saree in ivory with fine black pinstripes and a black border. Small geometric buttis in black are woven across the body between bands of grey and black stripes. The pallu carries a row of tiered tree motifs framed by geometric buttis and striped bands. Hand-knotted net tassels in grey finish the end. Woven in fine Phulia cotton, she drapes softly and breathes through the day.
Weaver
Days to make the saree
Every 100-count Phulia cotton saree with handwoven jamdani takes around 2 to 3 weeks to complete. Fine cotton yarns demand patience at every stage, from preparing the warp to weaving each delicate pick by hand. The jamdani motifs are added thread by thread, with the weaver lifting the warp and laying in each extra weft by hand as the saree grows on the loom. What appears effortless when draped is the result of weeks of focused work by artisans whose families have perfected this craft over generations.

Care Instructions
First Wash: Dry clean for the first wash to preserve the finish. Hand wash separately in cold water using a mild liquid detergent. Avoid soaking for long periods. Do Not: Use bleach, harsh detergents, or wring the saree aggressively, as fine-count cotton fibres deserve gentle handling. Drying: Dry in the shade, away from direct sunlight, to retain the richness of the colours. Ironing: Iron on a medium cotton setting while the saree is slightly damp, or use steam for the best finish. Storage: Fold neatly and store in a cool, dry place. If the saree has a zari border, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and avoid storing it in plastic. Refold it occasionally to prevent permanent creases.
