Ashwini: Purple Kattam Kanjeevaram, Korvai Coral Border
By Kanchipuram Master Weavers
Saree Story
They named me Ashwini, for the horsemen who ride before the dawn, always first, always swift. I am purple, checked fine as a promise kept in small pieces. Across me, horses run and elephants walk, speed and strength taking turns on the same canvas. My border was woven apart from me and joined by hand, purple giving way to coral at a seam that holds two colours without either losing itself. But it is my pallu where I keep my finest work. Two peacocks stand together there, mirrored, framed inside gold architecture that could belong to a temple, spires and arches worked entirely in zari. I do not rush to show this. I save it for the fall, the way a story saves its best line for the end.
Handloom Perfection
Handloom sarees are made by human hands, not machines. Which means every piece carries the natural variations of the loom and the weaver, proof that someone, somewhere, made this just for you.
Description
A pure Kanjeevaram silk saree in deep purple kattam (checked) weave, scattered with running horse and yaanai (elephant) buttis in gold zari. The korvai-woven border shifts into a vivid coral, and the pallu opens into a dense gold diamond lattice crowned with twin mayil (peacock) motifs set within an ornate temple-architecture design.

Silk rewards patience. Dry clean for the first wash. After that, cold water and a gentle hand. Never wring it, never rush it. Dry in the shade — silk and sunlight are not friends. Iron on the reverse, low heat, while it is still slightly damp.
