Basanti: Lightweight Kadhuwa Benarasi
By Naushad Ji
Saree Story
I am Basanti, and yes, I talk a lot, my whole body is lined in it. Fine stripes with tiny leaf vines run the full length of me, like I couldn't stop mid-sentence even if I tried. My colour is turmeric at its most confident, the marigold you'd find strung outside a temple on a good morning. My border finally slows me down, a dense band of florals and vines, rich and detailed, the part of me that knows when to be serious. I'm a lot. I've always been a lot. Wear me on a day you don't want to be missed.
Handloom Perfection
Handloom sarees are made by human hands, not machines. Which means every piece carries the natural variations of the loom and the weaver, proof that someone, somewhere, made this just for you.
Description
Basanti takes her name from the marigold-turmeric yellow she is woven in, a shade with festive energy built into the colour itself. The body carries fine silver pinstripes threaded with delicate leaf motifs, running the full length of the drape. The border deepens into a dense band of silver florals and vines, richly worked against the mustard base. The pallu is the showstopper, an intricate silver and gold jaal so dense the yellow beneath all but disappears. Vivid, detailed, built for the days that call for a saree with a voice of its own.

Silk rewards patience. Dry clean for the first wash. After that, cold water and a gentle hand. Never wring it, never rush it. Dry in the shade — silk and sunlight are not friends. Iron on the reverse, low heat, while it is still slightly damp.
