Saree Story

Crimson runs the length of me, plain and unbroken, the kind of red that doesn't need company to hold your attention. Have you ever watched a procession move slowly across a border? Mine does exactly that, a line of gold yaanai walking one after another, trunks and tails catching the weaver's every detail. Below them a dark olive band settles the pace, a thin green line marking where I finally end. My weaver gave the elephants room to walk unhurried, spacing each one with the same careful distance from the last. I am Gajendra, named for the herd that walks quietly along my hem

Handloom Perfection

Handloom sarees are made by human hands, not machines. Which means every piece carries the natural variations of the loom and the weaver, proof that someone, somewhere, made this just for you.

Description

A pure handwoven Kanchipuram cotton in a deep crimson canvas, bordered with a gold yaanai (elephant) procession motif on maroon, finished with a dark olive band edged in green.

Weaver

A community of master weavers and younger artisans in Kanchipuram, carrying forward a living heritage passed from one generation to the next, not in training centres but at the loom.

Fabric

Pure handspun cotton, soft against the skin and light enough for everyday wear. The weave holds its shape through the day without losing the crispness that good cotton is known for, breathable in the warmth, easy to drape, and built to only get softer with every wash.

Technique

Handwoven on traditional pit looms in the Kanchipuram cluster, this saree is woven in pure cotton, carrying the same discipline and craftsmanship of Kanchipuram's silk weaving tradition. Every thread is handspun cotton, woven start to finish without a single machine touch.

Saree with Blouse Piece

Saree doesn't come with a blouse piece

Care Instructions

First Wash: Dry clean for the first wash to preserve the finish and the zari or resham border. Thereafter: Hand wash separately in cold water using a mild liquid detergent. Avoid soaking for long periods. Do Not: Use bleach, harsh detergents, or wring the saree aggressively, as fine-count cotton fibres deserve gentle handling. Drying: Dry in the shade, away from direct sunlight, to retain the richness of the colours. Ironing: Iron on a medium cotton setting while the saree is slightly damp, or use steam for the best finish. Storage: Fold neatly and store in a cool, dry place. Refold it occasionally to prevent permanent creases.
