Zeenat: Pure Silk Tanchoi Jamewar Banarasi
By Nurul Ji
Saree Story
Call me Zeenat, I never learned to do things halfway. My canvas runs maroon into black and I fill every inch of it with paisleys, each one holding its own small garden of florals so no two feel quite the same. I am trying to emulate my friend Jamewar, so I carry the density of a woven shawl rather than the space a saree usually allows itself. People expect a saree this rich to be loud but I keep my border in black, cool and certain, letting a slim gold trim do the talking instead. I was woven by Nurul Ji, a National Award winner for tanchoi, and it shows in how tightly I hold my pattern together. I was never going to be a saree anyone forgets in a hurry.
Handloom Perfection
Handloom sarees are made by human hands, not machines. Which means every piece carries the natural variations of the loom and the weaver, proof that someone, somewhere, made this just for you.
Description
Zeenat is a tanchoi jamewar Banarasi with a dense paisley repeat running the length of her body, each kairi filled with a compact floral world in olive green, ivory and rose set against a maroon and black canvas. The rows sit close together, giving the body a rich, layered texture that reads almost like a woven shawl. Her border and pallu shift into black, restrained against the richness of the body, broken only by a fine paisley and floral trim in gold, maroon and green. The blouse piece continues in the same black, keeping the drape composed even where the weave grows most intricate.

Fabric
Woven in pure silk with a smooth, close texture, this saree carries enough weight to hold the dense paisley work without losing its fall. It drapes with a soft, fluid movement rather than sitting stiff, letting the richness of the pattern show through the folds instead of fighting them.

Saree with Blouse Piece
Full length saree with unstitched blouse piece, approx. 0.8 metre
Care Instructions
Silk rewards patience. Dry clean for the first wash. After that, cold water and a gentle hand. Never wring it, never rush it. Dry in the shade — silk and sunlight are not friends. Iron on the reverse, low heat, while it is still slightly damp.
