Sengal: Burnt Orange Pure Silk Kanjeevaram
By Kanchipuram Master Weavers
Saree Story
They named me Sengal, for the earth after it has been fired, the colour brick takes on once the kiln is done with it. My canvas holds that same warmth, burnt orange settling into rust as it travels down my length. My yaanai walk across me in quiet procession, steady and unhurried. Beside them my mayil open their tails in pairs, two peacocks together, a sight the old ones always called good fortune. One canvas, two creatures, one colour that has known heat and kept it. At my edge I open into magenta, a lattice of gold diamonds giving way to a garden in full bloom, flowers laid so dense they forget where one ends and the next begins. I carry the colour of something built to last.
Handloom Perfection
Handloom sarees are made by human hands, not machines. Which means every piece carries the natural variations of the loom and the weaver, proof that someone, somewhere, made this just for you.
Description
A pure Kanjeevaram silk saree in a warm burnt orange, shading softly into deeper rust at the fall. The canvas is scattered with alternating gold zari yaanai (elephant) and mayil (peacock) buttis, the paired peacocks carrying their own auspicious significance. The border and pallu open into vivid magenta, worked in a dense diagonal diamond lattice and a rich floral jaal, framed by fine striped detailing along the edge.

Care Instructions
Silk rewards patience. Dry clean for the first wash. After that, cold water and a gentle hand. Never wring it, never rush it. Dry in the shade — silk and sunlight are not friends. Iron on the reverse, low heat, while it is still slightly damp.
